Passeig de Gracia is the transition point from historic Barcelona to the modern city.
On this long, straight avenue you´ll find all the high street names, designer boutiques and big business - though the elegant thoroughfare from Placa Catalunya towards the mountains also boasts some of the city´s most impressive turn of the century architecture by modernist innovators Gaudi and Domenech i Montaner.
Two of Gaudi´s most famous buidings are on this street, La Pedrera, whose focal point is its impressive rooftop walkway, and Casa Batllo with its iconic bendy balconies. This busy avenue is Barcelona´s answer to 5th Avenue, Les Champs Elysees or Bond Street, reflecting the wealth and success of the city in the early 20th century in its exclusive hotels and the stunning residences of Barcelona´s elite.
